Every year at this time various Cape Cod villages go all out with their annual Christmas Strolls  – and it is worth the trip here to experience them!!  No one does Christmas like Cape Cod – right out of Currier and Ives

Here  are a few highlights in the Mid-cape area:

Sunday December 4:

BREWSTER FOR THE HOLIDAYS – 2:00 P.M. Cape Cod Museum of Natural History – Family Party! Santa, story telling, exhibits, music crafts.    Tree and Windmill lighting Friday at 4 in Drummer Boy Park !

YARMOUTH PORT CHRISTMAS STROLL 1-4 p.m.  Businesses, restaurants and residents are decorated for the holidays along Route 6A.  Treats and music of the season!  Tree lighting on  the common at 4:15 p.m.

CHATHAM CHRISTMAS BY THE SEA  – Events kick off with Santa’s arrival at the Fish Pier, Shore Rd. followed by Chatham Town Band and an evening of dinner and dancing at Chatham Bars Inn.

Sunday, December 11:

DENNIS VILLAGE CHRISTMAS STROLL – 1-4 p.m.  The Village is transformed into a winter wonderland, with Santa AND Mrs. Claus and the not-to-be-missed annual craft fair at the Dennis Memorial Library.  And don’t forget to visit us here at Lomenzo Properties for a sprig of FRESH MISTLETOE!

August 13. Dennis Union Church Auction. The much-anticipated auction by Eldred’s Auction. Bazaar with toys, tools, jewelry, furniture and much more! Summer cookout food available throughout. Dennis Village Green , 9-2 (auction begins at 10).  Free admission

August 13.  Alice in Wonderland Tea Party! Join Alice and her friends in the enchanted meadow behind the Yarmouth Port Post Office on Route 6A. Refreshments will be served.  Fancy dress is suggested. August 15-19. Woodsong Farm pony kids camp! Have a horse-crazy child in your family? Or one that wants to learn about horses? Sign up for this camp and choose from morning or afternoon programs, Monday-Friday, Tuesday & Thursday, or Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Our daughter’s love for riding came from this program many summers ago—we highly recommend it.

August 16.  “Tom Sawyer” at the Harwich Junior Theater. A spectacular rendition of the classic summer tale of childhood and what it means to grow up. Harwich, show times on website.

August 18.  “Sarah’s Key” at the Cape Cinema. Treat yourself to a wonderful theatre-going experience at this fabulous  Cinema.  The riveting film based on the novel by Tatiana de Rosnay delves deep into the roundup of Jews in Paris in 1942 and an American journalist’s ties to a little girl named Sarah. PG-13. Dennis Village. Thursday is final showing, but plays all week.

August 5. Cape Cod Baseball League Playoffs. Tonight kicks off the thrilling Cape League playoffs featuring the best college players in the  country.  Games nightly over the next week. Catch a game at DY High School to support our home team the YD Red Sox. But pay special attention to #34 pitcher Ryan Gibson playing for the Hyannis Harbor Hawk (he was our beloved player that we were host family to  last year!) August 7.   25th Annual Pops by the Sea. The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra wows in this annual summer treat. Farrelly Brothers Peter and Bobby  will be the celebrity guest conductors. Guest performers are Broadway stars Jason Danieley (Next to Normal) and Kelli O’Hara (South Pacific). Approx $15. Hyannis Village Green, 5-7 pm. http://www.artsfoundation.org/pops-tickets

August 9. If you were planning on spending the day at Chapin Beach—not so fast! Comedian Adam Sandler will be  filming his latest movie at Chapin Beach.  Costars Andy Samberg and Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl) will be filming scenes for their new movie “I Hate You, Dad”.  No sunbathing, but catch a glimpse of the stars!

August 9. Harwich Junior Theatre presents Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse. See this delightful tale of a spunky little mouse and her adventures in first grade.  Tuesdays and Thursdays 11:00 a.m. through August 25.  $10. Division St, West Harwich.           http://www.hjtcapecod.org/home.html

August 10 (or anytime). Mini- golfing with pirates! Play a round of mini-golf at the must-see pirate-themed course, Pirate’s Cove. Afterwards, check out the gift shop, complete with pirate gear, treasure chests, and nautical inspired glassware and gifts. If you’re lucky, you might catch Cape Cod Baseball League players there as well – it’s a popular hangout for them after the games!  Approx $10. July 30. Jimmy Fund and Dana Farber Cancer Institute Fundraiser. While you’re waiting until 2 pm to get into your rental, hang out at the Dennis Village Bandstand! 50/50 raffle, dunk tank, live music—all for a great cause. 11 am-3 pm, Dennis Village Green on Route 6A

July 30.  Grease anyone? Saturday Night Car Show. Come re-live past generations with the Cape Cod Classic Car Club. Check out over 100 cars, including a 1971 Mach 1 Mustang, a 1936 Ford Panel Truck and a 1928 Ford Model A T-Bucket. Enjoy oldies music. FREE. Patriot Square, South Dennis (in the top parking lot of Stop and Shop). 5 pm- dusk

July 31. Dennis Conservation Trust Auction.  A terrific annual  fundraising evening full of fabulous food, spirited refreshments, and live and silent bidding.  John Terrio is the comical and boisterous auctioneer!  $60 in advance, $65 at the door. August 1-4. Adam Sandler and the Green Monster—can’t get any better!  Although the exact day is not yet known, Adam Sandler, Leighton Meester, Susan Sarandon and Andy Samberg will be filming scenes for their new movie at Chapin Beach in Dennis, as well as at the Wychmere Harbor Club in Harwich. Production crews have started creating an imitation Fenway Green Monster at the baseball field at Wixon Middle School for other scenes.  Don’t miss a celebrity sighting! August 3. Xanadu re-done! The Cape Rep Theatre presents the 2007 musical based on the 1980 favorite starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Complete with legwarmers, roller-skating, and a romance between a mortal and demi-god. $30-$35. Brewster, 7 pm. www.caperep.org

July 23. The last day of the Barnstable County Fair! An annual event that no tourist (or  native!) should miss. There are animal shows, 4-H demonstrations, petting zoos, horticulture displays, rides, games, arts and crafts, various vendors. New artist Crystal Bowersox performs at 7:30. $10 for adults, $2 children 6-12, under 6 FREE. 12 noon-10 pm.

July 23. Interact with Live Reptiles! Museum of Natural History, Brewster. Michael Ralbovsky, founder of Rainforest Reptiles, provides animals for The Discovery Channel and Animal Planet, will be appearing. Experience safe contact with alligators, turtles, snakes, and frogs. $10.  4:30- 5:30 and 7-8.

July 25. Music on the Dennis Village Green!  “Tripping Lilly” -Original acoustic folk.  FREE. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, food, and drink and enjoy the summer’s eve. Head to the Ice Cream Smuggler for dessert. FREE. Dennis Village Bandstand at the corner of 6A and Old Bass River Rd, 7pm.

July 27 (or any day) . Scargo Tower. Enjoy the breathtaking views from the highest point in the mid-cape area. Take a picnic, blankets, swim in  the lake and then head to the tower. Read about the legend of Princess Scargo before you go! FREE. Dennis, anytime.

July 28 (and most summer nights) . Harvest Gallery & Wine Bar. If you haven’t had the pleasure of wining and light dining at this little treasure—make tonight your first!  See our previous BLOG about Harvest Wine Gallery here. Browse through the current exhibit, or order a drink and listen to the Kami Lyle Trio -pop, jazz, original/ piano, guitar, bass. An eclectic, downtown setting that retains the small-town charm of the Cape. 7:30 p.m. most summer nights.

July 9. Meet CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG! Take kids of all ages to meet PBS’s cartoon character Clifford, and listen to one of his adventures. FREE.

July 11. “The Desert of Forbidden Art.” (Our 19 year old daughter wants to go to this one!) For enthusiasts of art and international affairs alike, join NY Times journalist Stephen Kinzer’s talk about Igor Savitsky’s film on his rescue of 40,000 forbidden works of art, and the creation of his museum in Uzbekistan. $10.  Cultural Center of Cape Cod, South Yarmouth, 7 pm.

July 3. Lobster Roll Luncheon. Haven’t satisfied your craving for your summer lobster roll yet?  Head over to the Gazebo in Dennis Village for a roll, chips, coleslaw, clam  chowder, and dessert. $15. Dennis Village gazebo at the corner of 6A and Old Bass River Rd, 11 am- 2pm.

July 4. FIREWORKS! Fourth of July sparkles from Rock Harbor in Orleans. FREE. Orleans, dusk. (There will also be plenty of  “private” fireworks on local beaches so watch the skies for them!)

July 6. Yoga on the Beach. Start your morning right: work out to the sound of waves and seagulls. Tuesday through Saturday, taught by professionals from Sasha’s Yoga & Massage Studio. $12. South Village Beach, West Dennis, 7:30 am.

July 6. Hyannis Sound Special Performance. Although this group appeared in last week’s events, we love them so much that we had to include them again! Talented male singers from colleges all over the country perform songs, a capella,  from the 1940’s- 1970’s. $10, children are free. 2049 Meeting House Way, West Barnstable, 7 pm.

July 8. Local Culture—for Children and Adults! “Alladdin” at the  Cape Playhouse at 9:30 and 11:00 am $11; “No Way to Treat a Lady” also at the Playhouse at 8 pm $30.  Seeing a show at the oldest summer theater in the country is a charming way to spend the evening. For those of you who missed “Doug the Quahog” on the Hyannis Green last week, he, along with Dennis’ own Chris Lambton (formerly  a T.V.  “Bachelor”, recently engaged!) came out of his shell and predicted six more weeks of beach weather!
